Drawings from my youth

I rarely have time to indulge in my drawing or painting these days sadly, but on a visit to my mum's house over Christmas I discovered a big bag of sketches. These were done probably 30 years ago, but I thought you might like to see a couple ...

let me know what you think?! I might post more if you like them!!

Busy busy busy!!!

It seems that family life and the chaotic whirlwind that is my world has begun to impact on my painting and drawing. This could explain why I did not pick up a brush for so long.Rushing around like a mad thing is not conducive to a creative vibe. My paints and brushes are still out and I want to work but it is proving difficult.

I will post paintings here as often as I can.

Portrait of a girl - Layla, in watercolour.

I had to have another go at this portrait of Layla. I am much happier with this one, but I will probably have another go at a later date. I have learned to sketch in a 2B pencil for the outline of a watercolour - that way the pencil doesn't spoil the clarity of the paint.

The blog makes this look very pale, but the original has good depth and colour, which I'm pleased with... you could click to get a better view, but it still doesn't quite show it..

Flamenco dancer 2 in watercolour.

Watercolour of flamenco dancer. I am happier with this one as my second attempt, but still have a way to go! It makes you realise just how difficult it is to get your imagination onto the paper! Still, I shall keep working on it...

Flamenco Dancer - watercolour.

My first attempt at a flamenco dancer. I am pleased with the colour and movement, but need to work at the hands and arms. I want to get them right - defined, elegant and passionate. Watch this space over the next few days for more.
